Another Public Service Announcement:

Auggie Olsen did some research and is sharing it for your information if you are interested in a home surge protector.

From Auggie:

I wrote to the manufacturer of the electrical panels (Eaton) that we all have in out homes to get some guidance and clarification on questions people had regarding surge devices for their home. Their response might be worth putting out on your weekly update. I have it attached below. If anyone would like the actual instructions for their best and recommended surge device they can contact me.

Response from Eaton Care:

None of our surge devices require an electrician to install them for the warranty to be applicable.  If they are comfortable and safe with the installation a homeowner can install any of them.

The surge devices can be purchase from an authorized Eaton distributor or a retail store.  Eaton does not sell directly through Amazon, so if they were to go through Amazon, they would be purchasing from a third-party seller which might or might not be an authorized distributor.  you can locate a distributor from our website atResidential wholesale distributors  .

The CHSPT2ULTRA is the best device we offer with a surge current capacity of 108kA but is a little more complex install require a breaker installation and the device installation. l have provided them for help.

The surge breakers BR230SUR or BR250SUR, both offer 36kA surge current capacity, and are easy install because they plug on as a breaker and then have the wire connection to the neutral.  It is both a breaker and a surge device so even though the breaker aspect doesn’t have to be used for the surge to work it might add some confusion/complexity.

BRNSURGE is the simplest install, it plugs in like a breaker and then a ground wire is connected to the ground bar, but the surge current capacity is 18kA.

The first two provide product warranty and equipment coverage, which is for the deductible of the homeowners insurance or up to the $ limit listed.  Surge Protection Warranty: http://www.eaton.com/ecm/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&allowInterrupt=1&RevisionSelectionMethod=LatestReleased&noSaveAs=0&Rendition=Primary&dDocName=PCT_1628743

The BRNSURGE just has the product warranty on the device itself. As for receipts, etc., that would all just need to be worked out through the process of a submission of a claim.  Our warranty/quality would work through that with them if a claim was submitted.
