We have had comments regarding the condition of the pine straw recently placed in the neighborhood. We have heard there are too many pine cones and twigs. We have talked to RGS and did some research and this is what we’ve found:
This year the state of Georgia has experienced a shortage of pine straw.  This was due largely to the weather in February with consistent rainfall and limited production.  In addition, the shortage was complicated by high demand, shortage of freight service, and a lack of labor.  Pine straw is typically harvested by manually raking. With the labor shortage, machines were used with the resulting chance of more debris in the pine straw.  No pine straw harvester could guarantee absolutely clean pine straw.
