I personally know two individuals who were targeted by online scammers in the last few months. One person avoided being a victim while the other lost $2,400. The bad actors have many tricks, but there are some simple things you can do to keep yourself safe. Today I came across a couple of useful resources for seniors who use smart phones, tablets, and computers.
The first is A Quick Guide for Online Safety for Seniors. Clicking on that link will download a two-page .pdf file (which is easier to read on a tablet or computer).
The second is The Senior’s Guide to Online Safety. You can read the contents of this page directly as well as download a detailed .pdf at the bottom of the page.
The source for both links is ConnectSafely.org and you can go to their home page to see their other offerings. Most of it is for parents to protect their children online, but the links provided here are for seniors or soon-to-be seniors.
If there is interest, we could arrange for an information session in the Clubhouse to cover these topics. Just leave a comment or send an email to chuck.storla using my gmail.com address. If you are wondering why I don’t just spell out my email address in the normal format, that is a topic for another day. Or you can look here (https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0210-how-get-less-spam-your-email).
