By now you are no doubt tired of warnings about email phishing attacks, telephone scams, computer viruses, etc. Based on a few people I’ve had to help recently, there is a need for still more warnings. Two different individuals (not from Grace if you’re wondering), lost thousands of dollars when they gave control of their computers and bank account to scammers pretending to be “Microsoft Tech Support.”

There are numerous sites out there with good advice on what NOT to do. Here is one from the Federal Trade Commission with useful reminders. If you hover your mouse pointer over that link, you’ll see that it is in fact connected to ftc.gov.

Just to demonstrate why you shouldn’t click on every link you see in an email or on a website, here is another link that claims to be for the Federal Trade Commission, but is not. If you clicked on it without examining the link, consider yourself fortunate that I have not turned to the dark side. Yet.

P.S. Extra points if you got the obscure title reference to Hill Street Blues.
