The start of a new year (or the end of one) is a good time to replace the batteries in all your smoke detectors. As I learned this week when one of mine started chirping, there are more of them than I remembered.
If you don’t want to hunt for a ladder and batteries at three in the morning, then now is the time to grab some 9-volt and some AA batteries (they don’t all take the same ones). The good news is that Windsong was good to us and installed multiple smoke detectors. The bad news is you have to check every room to avoid an early morning wakeup call. If you have a second floor, there might be two up there.
If you can, play the senior card and use it as an excuse to get a younger relative to visit.
